GPS dog tracking collarAnother entry into the GPS dog tracking market has appeared — The Hear Now. What makes The Hear Now’s products unique is the inclusion of a two-way radio, so you can speak to your wandering pet! LED lights in the collar, visible for a reported two miles, are another helpful aid in pet recovery.

The first generation of The Hear Now products is slated to be available in the U.S. and Canada in October of 2007, and will be sold through retail pet supply stores. They will have a two-mile range but will not have GPS tracking capabilities. That will come with the second generation, set for release in late 2007 / early 2008. A third generation device will add geofencing capabilities.

Here is a breakdown on the product lines:

Generation 1 collar set THN1-2V (2-mile range) includes one collar and one hand-held unit to be available for delivery in October 2007

Generation 2 collar set THN2-GV (12-mile range) includes one collar and hand-held unit expected for December 2007

Generation 3 collar set THN3-GMV includes one collar and one hand-held unit expected delivery 2008.

I am looking for a GPS tracking system that will work like this.

A GPS chip small enough that it can be injected under the skin of a horse so that this animal could be tracked any were. The ideal system would have an individual code that can be entered in to a web site that would bring up a world map like Google Earth and would pin point the exact location of the animal.

I am not sure that this technology is available yet. But if this could be accomplished the applications could be used for our animals, children, solders.

I like the BlackBerry or PDA option! None of this is worth the money unless I can access easy to read GPS data,(color map preferred) in the field on the spot with out a computer. Integrate into Google Maps and product would be top of the line!
