GPS vehicle tracking helps police find stolen car September 11, 2006

Here’s a story about how GPS vehicle tracking helped police in Charlotte, NC find a stolen car:

Police used Global Positioning System (GPS) technology overnight to find a stolen vehicle.

The suspect or suspects remain at large, however.

Police were contacted overnight and told that someone had stolen a Cadillac Escalade. When officers were told that the vehicle had the On-Star security system, they used the GPS technology to find the vehicle.

That set off a pursuit, and police finally found the vehicle, abandoned, on Eagles Landing Drive, off Freedom Drive in west Charlotte. The suspect or suspects had escaped, however.

Police called in their K-9 dog search team but were not able to locate the thief or thieves.
