Alzheimer’s GPS bracelet coming to U.S.? March 15, 2007
Posted by Rich in : GPS tracking elderly , trackback
Last year I posted a story about GPS tracking of Alzheimer’s patients. It turns out that Medical Intelligence Technologies, makers of the Columba GPS bracelet are expanding aggressively in Europe and are courting partners for a U.S. introduction by the end of 2007.
According to an article in The (Montreal) Gazette, the GPS tracking bracelet “sells for $300 plus a $60 per month subscriber fee. Government reimbursement of the cost is an active issue in marketing the device.” In the U.S. the issue may be reimbursement by private insurance.

What we would like to know is how successfully this bracelet is being adopted, in France for instance, where it has ideal marketing.
Success in this market will give adequate confidence to launch the product with the sort of marketing muscle necessary to succeed in the USA.
where can i get one in the U.S.??
I don’t think its available here yet. You can get this though…

I work for the local government in Kansas City, KS and there is significant interest in initiating a program involving GPS locator bracelets for the residents of our city who suffer from Alzheimer’s/dementia. We have recently had a few deaths caused by wandering that could have possibly been prevented with the use of this technology. The only concern is the cost of equipment and service. I am very interested in any information you could provide me or any direction you could give me that would assist in finding the necessary information to get the ball rolling on this program. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.
Hi,
I work with an in-home care chain in Canada and would be very interested in learning how we may purchase this product in Canada.

Hello~
I’m in desperate need of something like this for my Grandpa. He ended up wandering away from his assisted living facility last night for a few hours. It was so disorienting not knowing what to do and whether or not we’d find him. He’s legally blind and doesn’t have the best balance. Please let me know where this item can be purchased!
Thanks,
Kim
